Hyundai Heavy Industries has announced that the HiBallast™ as its own electrolysis-based model of Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS) has successfully received the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Type Approval(TA)  on  Oct. 26, 2018.

Hyundai Heavy Industries had successfully conducted land-based, shipboard and marine environmental tests with classification society, DNV GL as an Independent Laboratory (IL) authorized by the USCG for the past two years. And finally, Hyundai Heavy Industries has achieved the USCG Type Approval formally after submitted all the onerous testing reports and documents last May.

Also, the HiBallast™ models with the explosion proof type (“Ex-” prefix) were confirmed that these models meet the requirements of the USCG and may be installed in hazardous locations on a U.S. flag vessel in accordance with the Certificate of the USCG Type Approval.

Especially, Hyundai Heavy Industries obtains this approval in cooperation with DNV GL, which has been known for high degree of reliability with stringent and strict testing regulations and standards, as the first time in Korea. This is highly regarded for its outstanding performance, safety, and reliability in the world market.

This approval means that Hyundai Heavy Industries’ BWTS becomes worldwide approved for BWTS installation on vessels and gaining and maintaining marketplace advantage.

Furthermore, with a total solution provider, Hyundai Global Service which a unit of Hyundai Heavy Industries specializes in ship building related service including engineering & technical support and eco-friendly overhaul & maintenance operations, Hyundai Heavy Industries’ BWTS is expected to be positioned itself favourably in the market of BWTS retrofit
